Happy New Year, we wonder what 2021 will bring?! 2020 was certainly a busy, emotional one. We started last year as normal but from March onwards things changed, as they did for everyone. Over the year our amazing bank of volunteers have worked thousands of hours cooking and serving tonnes of hot food. From a small group of dedicated people to a workforce of around 70 tireless drivers, cooks, washer-uppers, food bag sorters, admin, social media and the public faces of the street kitchens…. all smiling, all helping, all wearing PPE! They stepped up in a pandemic and gave their free time for others.
We recycled unwanted food and goods, we bought new clean socks, we grew food, we worked with StreetVet to worm our street dogs. We advocated, advised and made phone calls for those who couldn’t and we spent hours sorting Universal Credit with rough sleepers who had no access to computers. The list could go on and on and on!
Most importantly we all kept safe and healthy, we kept a very close eye on all our regular clients and the many new ones. We helped long term homeless into the temporary accommodation supplied by the council, and we helped them stay and move onto independence. 2020 has been a tough year but it’s also had a lot of positive, happy outcomes. We laughed, we cried and we sorted many tins of soup!
Happy New Year and a huge thank you to all our volunteers, donors and supporters.
